Helen Halstead

HelenHalstead_small Helen Halstead lives in the Adelaide Hills. After working mainly as a teacher, she has been writing fulltime for the past year. Fascination with the works of Jane Austen resulted in Helen's first book, A Private Performance, a Pride and Prejudice sequel. She self-published this book in 2004 and it was picked up by Random House and subsequently published in countries, including the US. The idea for Helen's second book, The Imaginary Gentleman, grew from her fascination with disappearances. Helen is currently working on an historical novel set in South Australia.

Latest Book: The Imaginary Gentleman
Random House Australia, Sydney, 2006
Set in 1806, this is a Regency mystery. On the deserted sea-front at Lyme, Laura Morrison apparently meets the mysterious Mr. Templeton. In moments, he will disappear so completely that Laura's relations, and ultimately Laura herself, come to believe the gentleman is imaginary. Readers love the main characters: strong, witty Laura, her wounded war-hero brother Edward, and charming, manipulative sister Elspeth. The book is rich in historical detail, and a page-turner which keeps readers guessing.
