Sarah Tooth
Director
Sarah Tooth has worked in the arts for 20 years, as administrator,
manager and creative producer. In addition to many years spent
writing and producing for the ABC, Sarah has experience in a
myriad of arts organisations – her most recent position as co-director
of the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival.
Jude Aquilina
Office and Projects Manager
Jude Aquilina's poetry has been published in newspapers, anthologies and literary journals across Australia and in the UK. Jude has been a regular voice at Friendly Street for the last decade and has been guest speaker at writer's festivals, community events, Poets on Popeye, etc. Jude has published two collections of poetry: Knifing the Ice (Friendly St Poets/Wakefield Press 2000) and On a Moon Spiced Night (Wakefield Press 2004); and also co-edited Friendly Street #24. Malcolm Walker
Communications Officer & Editor, Southern Write
Malcolm was born and raised in London, and travelled widely during the 70s, working in Europe, Central and South America. Although still addicted to travelling, his love of Australia, its country and its easy-going attitudes, saw him settle in Adelaide during the 80s. Currently he divides time between editing Southern Write and working on his next project, a young-adult fantasy trilogy. The Stone Crown, his first young adult novel, is a partial reworking of the Arthurian legend and was published by Walker Books Australia in 2008 and was released in the UK November 2009. Lesley Beasley
Administrative Assistant
Lesley Beasley has been assisting in the office for the last seven years. She's written short stories, poetry and book reviews and is currently working on a never-ending nonfiction project.
Sharon Kernot
Disability Writer-in-Residence
Sharon is the author of In the Shadows of the Garden and Washday Pockets published by Ginninderra Press. Her novel, ‘Underground Road’, was shortlisted in the unpublished manuscript category of the 2010 Adelaide Festival of Literature Awards.
Sharon says, ‘I have worked with many people with disabilities over the past ten years during my roles as creative writing tutor at TAFE SA and counsellor at Families SA. I am very excited about being a part of this program and look forward to meeting with and assisting members with their writing goals.’
Patrick Allington
Seniors Writer-in-Residence
Patrick's debut novel, Figurehead (Black Inc. 2009), was longlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award, and his short fiction, essays and critical writings appear in Australian newspapers, magazines and journals. He received the Barbara Hanrahan Fellowship in 2010. Patrick says, 'It's a privilege to be involved in the seniors writer-in-residence project, based at Helping Hand Aged Care at Parafield Gardens. I look forward to working with interested seniors in the City of Salisbury area who have stories they want to tell.' You can contact Patrick at
